Traditions in fall

Traditional Törggele evenings in South Tyrol

The time of year when nature says goodbye to summer, and reflects in all kinds of colors, is the most beautiful and enjoyable period in South Tyrol, In fall, nature is at its most picturesque, and the locals in the area stage a number of traditional events, such as Törggelen.

"Törggelen" is one of South Tyrol's oldest traditions. For many centuries, the local farmers have visited each other at this time of year, just after the harvest, to taste the first young wine of the year. The wine is usually accompanied by chestnuts and traditional fare. Törggelen is still as popular as it was centuries ago. In fact, it is the best occasion in the whole year to taste traditional South Tyrolean dishes such as barley soup, "Schlutzkrapfen" dumplings, "Knödl" dumplings, tasty meat and great wine.

We would be delighted to introduce you to this traditional activity during your stay at Untertheimerhof in Villandro/Villanders.
